Antique CHAIR restoration - LEATHER deBOSSED SEAT & BACKREST
RECREATING THE EMBOSSING PATTERN
PRIVATE COLLECTOR, NEW YORK, NEW YORK
CUSTOM DYING AND DEBOSSING BY MOLDING THE LEATHER
This chair was brought to us from another upholstery studio. The challenge was to produce the same debossed leather with the same color for the approximative 80 year old lounge chair. The overall upholstery was damaged but the fascination were the traditional materials used for the work. Jute belting, Grin D’Afrique, Horse Hair and a Wool cover. All environmentally friendly and renewable materials!
We happily took on the challenge to reproduce the debossed leather. We drew up the templates for both the seat and backrest and made first the two molds. Now we were ready to mold and dye the acutal leather to have the same debossing effect. It was tedious work, but satisfying.
