MIES VAN DER ROHE BRNO CHAIR (model no. MR50)

Hand-painted leather by Amelia Coulter at AVO.

An iconic chair of the 20th century reimagined with hand-painted leather. The metallic painted slashes enhance this chair and takes it to a whole other level! We also redid the webbing for the seat cushion support as the old webbing was stretched out from use.

The BRNO Chair was designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1930 for his renowned Tugendhat House in Brno, Czech Republic, The chair is celebrated for its simplicity, lean profile, and meticulous attention to detail. It’s clean line consists of a flat steel frame in a single piece, bent into a C-shape from the middle of the back, round past the front edge of seat (to create arms), and back under the seat to create a cantilever.

The seat, back and armrests are originally upholstered in a flat brown leather as seen below.
